Gazprom says contests court ruling on $.2.6 bln payment to Naftogaz

MOSCOW, Mar 22 (PRIME) -- Russian gas giant Gazprom has sent an appeal to the Appeal Court of the Svea District to abolish an earlier U.S. $2.56 billion court ruling in a case on supplies to Ukrainian energy holding Naftogaz Ukrainy partially, Gazprom said in a statement on Thursday.

“Gazprom sent an appeal for a partial repeal of a final decision in arbitration litigation on supplies to Naftogaz Ukrainy to the Appeal Court of the Svea District on March 21, 2018,” Gazprom said.

“Since the final decision of the arbiters in the dispute is based on the same conclusions as an earlier separate decision in arbitration litigations, the appeal was sent on the same basis, namely because of abuse of power by the arbiters at decision making and their serious processing faults.”

The Stockholm arbitration court ruled on March 1 that Gazprom must pay Naftogaz Ukrainy for non-shipment of gas. Gazprom said that the decision misbalanced the companies’ interests and requested termination of gas transit and delivery contracts with Ukraine.
